Massimiliano Cerchi is a great guy who loves what he does; create journeys into the realms of horror! With all the news on The House of Evil Max had been sharing with me that was all I was expecting, his latest vision of horrific cinema. What a surprise it was to discover he had another film on its way to VOD and an early 2015 DVD release. On top of that one that was considered lost.
Chatting with Max, otherwise known by me as Mass’, on Face Book this past week he could see my enthusiasm and asked if I wanted to check out Hellbilly and review it for him on the awesome Extreme Horror Cinema…naturally as you can see I stated yes yes yes!!!
Billy is the said Hellbilly, a masked hulk of a man who stalks the countryside armed with a machete killing unwary people!
Our first victim is a man who decided he had the need to urinate while about to have sex in the back of his jeep with his girlfriend. Unfortunately for him Billy’s machete finds his skull a nice resting place. His girlfriend witnesses the killing and runs for it. Discovering a home she seeks help to find out the hard way that this was the lair of the Hellbilly!
Murder and mayhem travel the countryside as Billy seeks the witness to his machete welding brutality!
Experiencing what follows on screen I knew I was witnessing a real ‘lost’ treasure of Underground filmmaking! Perfectly paced, the running time is spot on at around 48 minutes and naturally I loved the experience all up! There is this part of the film where he plays with this triloquist dummy; it is talking to him saying pretty much kill them all, then they play ‘paper, rock, scissors’…Billy keeps doing rock and naturally the dummy wins all the time with paper for the obvious reason. I love the perfect ending as well but won’t go into it as I don’t want to spoil it for our readers!
With machete skull splitting, tongues being cut out, gutting with the innards being discarded, nunsploitation knife skull fucking there is a lot of nice scenes of carnage to experience! Though not over the top for me it is perfect for this slasher/exploitation/underground film and I loved it!
Well worth checking out, Hellybilly is a lost film I am more than glad is getting to see the light of day! Really grateful Mass’ gave me this opportunity to check it out! Anyone who loves Underground Horror cinema as much as I do need this in their library!
