Creeps: A Tale of Murder and Mayhem comes from the minds of a group of friends where are still at the age of going to High School. Instead of doing whatever other students do at this time of their lives these guys are on a mission of creating their own horrific visions on film, being influenced and impassioned from an early age by the movies of the 70s and onwards, really the films that people here at Extreme Horror Cinema are mostly into! Not constrained about what the latest horror fad is at the moment or budgetary restraints they are doing what they want!

Creeps: A Tale of Murder and Mayhem is the debut for director Jack Mulvanerty. On writing duties are Johnny Dickie and Jack’s brother Ryan Mulvanerty. Johnny has the most experience of the three with having written and directed Slaughter Tales (2012) along with two shorts; The Severed Arm Re-Amputated (2013) and Clampires and Other Stereotapes (2013) Creeps is Ryan’s debut as writer. All three have acting duties as well.
First up I seriously dug Creeps, it was one of those films I really enjoyed from the get go. Had it’s laugh out moments along with some nice practical gore effects that took me back to the likes of the SOV films of the 80s and 90s, great stuff! Creeps is real DIY film making done right by a group of teenagers into the movies of my generation, thankfully influenced by older family members and not what is popular by the crowd who may watch horror when it is ‘in’.

Screen Shot 2014-02-20 at 12_52_26 AMIt’s funny how things work out, this age group and passion to this genre works perfectly for Creeps! Each character just fits in brilliantly and adds to something that is meant to be a fun, not so serious viewing experience.

Effects were provided by the team of; Joshua Bruce, Johnny Dickie and Jack Mulvanerty. Naturally being a slasher film there is gory bloody death and mayhem abound. Of people being shot, stabbed, their heads and limbs hacked off and all that fun stuff! It all looks great and again took me back to films like Violent Shit (1987) and Splatter Farm(1987)! Just enjoyable to watch for this viewer and for what it was about, like the acting, is perfect! For a film of a budget of around $400.00 and with it being created by guys in their teens it is amazing!

guys having a vision, going for it and succeeding at what older filmmakers and much bigger budgets fail at! Creeps is a film I would recommend anyone into the Underground scene / 80s SOV scene to dive into when you get the chance! True DIY filmmaking, from acting, effects to creating the score everything was brilliant. A really solid effort for first time filmmaker Jack Mulvanerty, Ryan Mulvanerty and with the help of the more experienced Johnny Dickie!
