But soon he will discover he is not alone…
Bloodshock is the second film of the American Guinea Pig series that promises to bring forth a new level of extreme movie experience. A film that will disturb!
American Guinea Pig: Bloodshock killed it on its Indiegogo campaign to the point of reaching 1066% back in January, 2016. Disturbing DVD covers, pictures of the props and what have you promised something very special for fans of extreme horror cinema.
Then came the trailer!
It dug its claws inside the skull of this fan of extreme horror cinema! No doubt a lot of other people’s as well! Nerve shattering imagery seared itself in my mind! It became an obsession! Experience that made me feel each moments suffering from Dan Ellis‘ character. One man’s trauma in the name of…bloodshock!
Stephen Biro‘s decade long vision is coming alive! Born from the the sick depraved minds of Japanese filmmakers. Biro had the dream and vision to take it farther. His dream was born with last years Bouquet of Guts and Gore. With the team of Biro, Koch and VanBebber plus a host of other talent they got the blood flowing nicely! But what do you expect from THAT trinity of talent!
American Guinea Pig: Bloodshock is another team-up of Marcus Koch‘s Oddtopsy Films and, needless to state, Stephen Biro‘s Unearthed Films. Biro penning the story and Koch on directing and some of the effects duties. Some other well known entities within the Underground Horror movie community played their part in this awesome film!
Dan Ellis everyone must know, especially with Ryan Nicholson‘s Gutterballs and Hanger. Dan really brings something perfect here portraying a man going deeper into a nihilistic state at the realisation that this extreme torment and pain is the rest of his life. From the complete whiteness of his padded cell to the extreme opposite of the operating room. From a place of almost sensory deprivation to one of totally sensory overload. Agonising pain, discomfort and a total loss shows on Dan’s face throughout his journey to HELL and the aftermath.
Lillian McKinney is a relative new comer to acting. Lillian is perfectly cast as female patient. Farther along the process than Dan’s male patient she is farther in the headspace of nihilism when it came to the surgical cruelty placed on her. Accepting certain aspects of the surgery almost flinching when it comes to some of the extreme scenarios suffering shows through, especially when her chest cavity is cut and prised open. Lillian has these amazing eyes that carry through the character’s emotions and head space.
Both Lillian and Dan’s characters go through a LOT of turmoil in the film then we get a release the end. BUT you will have to watch the film to see as I won’t spoil this awesome event for future viewers.
Our medical team of Andy Winton as The Doctor and again Gene Palubicki brought a nice callousness to the proceedings. Suffering and life didn’t mean anything to them. With the few lines and quips within Bloodshock they proceed to show the coldness of people going about an insane job collecting the serotonin and what have you rich blood supply. Andy’s Doctor does some quite nasty stuff. When he licks Dan’s brain and Lilian’s heart it is perfect. He is a blood junky and doesn’t give a fuck what he has to do to get his fix.
American Guinea Pig: Bloodshock is a film about two people who have been imprisoned in a unknown location for the purpose of pain and suffering. Of being objects to harvest their blood and the chemicals with that are triggered to counter physical damage and stress. So naturally there is more than a healthy amount of nasty looking visions. Of tongues cut out to the wickedness of the Gigly saw cutting through the ribcage, arm and leg not to mention female patient’s sternum which is then prised open. Naturally the practical effects are provided by the Oddtopsy FX team of Cat Bernier, Marcus Koch and Melanie Dean. An amazing squeamish job is done! Real moments of “hell I can feel that!” are provided.
Talking about unknown location Stephen picked the perfect spot for American Guinea Pig: Bloodshock and what an awesome back story! In the early 2000’s he ran a video store in this building that used to be a mental and medical facility way back in the 50s. After one of the doctor’s was executed by the Cuban Mafia the place was closed down and the upstairs was left pretty much as is. So naturally where we see where the medical madness take place it looks all gnarly with it’s rundown walls, hallway and door to HELL.
Stephen Nemeth of Thorn Productions and co-host of the VERY awesome Sadistic Cinema podcast for getting the opportunity to be the cameraman for this experience in medical madness.
Assisting Kristian Day with the soundscapes and noise was Jimmy ScreamerClauz whose latest insane experience When Black Birds Fly was released earlier this year. Along with this Gene ‘Angel Corpse’ Palubicki along with playing The Orderly #1 assisted here as well. Our team of sonic engineers did a perfect job with the score, it really fits in perfectly with the happenings on screen.
Was contemplating the American Guinea Pig universe while writing this review you have your eyes on now. Have this strong sense that everything is tied in in some way. Probably way off and the only connection are that they belong in the series and each their own experience in disturbed and bloody storytelling. But still, the feeling is there. Unknown clients of the first film, the doctor and his operations to create the suffering for blood shock. But alas Song of Solomon is coming along and will probably prove me all wrong…or will it!?!
American Guinea Pig: Bloodshock was pretty damned flawless to me. When a film’s trailer gets under my skin then the full feature assaults all of my senses then well….honestly nothing negative or that could have been done better comes to mind. Stephen Biro and Marcus Koch truly are bringing something special to fans of extreme horror cinema with AGP and quite frankly brought to me what is quite frankly a hard task to beat as best Underground film for 2016!
